Biography Of Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko [Attorney-General And Commissioner Of Justics]


Barr. Uwemedimo Nwoko, is the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. He is the 14th State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.  A Lawyer, resource person, human rights activist and politician, Nwoko was born on October 27, 1964, in Abiakana, Urua Inyang in Ika LGA.
Before his appointment as Commissioner, Nwoko was the chairman of the board of Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua.

Nwoko attended St. Augustine Secondary School, Urua Inyang, from 1977-82 before proceeding to the University of Calabar, Cross River State and Nigerian Law School, Lagos between 1987 to 1992.
The 52-year-old attorney-general obtained his LL.B from the University of Calabar in 1991 and his BL in 1992 at the Nigerian Law School, Lagos. He participated in the National Youth Service programme in Lagos. After his service year, he went back to the classroom for his Master’s degree, still in law ( LL.M Degree) at the Lagos State University (LASU) in 1998. Prior to his advent into government service, the Commissioner had been in private legal practice since 1992. He has been deeply involved in building our democracy through landmark election petition and constitutional law cases.
Nwoko is an attorney general with a robust background in rights activism. He enjoys populist recognition among the masses, particularly among the underprivileged where he had on several occasions chose to be their voice.
Apart from advocacy, Nwoko had stamped his authority in political litigation.
During the 2011 general elections in the state, he successfully defended the PDP and its candidates out of the election petition tribunal, the Appeal and Supreme Courts. He was also in the defense team for the PDP and Governor Udom Emmanuel after the 2015 general elections in the state up to the Supreme Court, where he brought his technical and intellectual prowess to bear in those cases.
His painstaking efforts at research and documentation helped to puncture the bundles of perceived evidence brought by the opposition to the tribunal.
Nwoko, is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), former member, Body of Benchers; member, Council of Legal Education in Nigeria and member, Promotions and Disciplinary Committee (APDC) of Council of Legal Education.
The legal luminary is on a familiar terrain having been previously appointed the state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
